They actively seek suppliers with sustainable practices, noting Hadrian Border Brewery's use of green energy for brewing. While striving for sustainable options, they acknowledge logistical challenges with certain larger suppliers and continuously look for practical alternatives.In waste management, The Tavern utilises a large recycling bin for glass and other waste processed by Gateshead Council. They use recyclable straws, reuse towels and dishcloths, and exclusively stock glass bottles for spirits, wines, and other products in their fridges. Future plans include bulk-buying cleaning materials to refill bottles, reducing plastic waste.Energy efficiency measures include the use of LED bulbs and ensuring lights, heating, and air conditioning are turned off when not required. A new fridge cooler is planned to further reduce energy consumption, and energy monitoring figures are currently being obtained. Water consumption cannot be individually monitored due to a shared building tariff.The Tavern ensures fair employment practices, paying appropriate minimum wages, National Insurance contributions, and enrolling staff in government pension schemes.
